I was reading the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! earlier today and stumbled upon 5th gear; saying that the Prius is the best value car you can buy. Travis then pointed out that the cost of ownership is:

just $0.47 per mile, which is pretty damn impressive.

I decided to look up Chloe's (my 2013 Honda Civic) specs. According to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the cost is only $0.43 per mile; this is LESS than the Prius. So, how is this less of a value than a Prius?

I posted this on the article itself, but I am greyed out over there, so no one will see it.

So, what is your take on this?

As it should...because that is a stupid metric for determining what car is the best "value"

People used to be able to make the claim that the Prius was very fuel efficient...Chloe is rated at 28 city 39 highway; I average about 35 (almost 90% city)....

Sure the Prius is rated at 48/51; but it starts at around $24,000; My Civic is about $19,000...

This is just a random example to... I'm simply defending my baby

The race to the bottom sounds pretty boring if you ask me. A 3 door Yaris is even cheaper!

I like super cheap no-frills cars for some reason.

Hell, my 13 year old French coupe costs me half per mile as a new Prius in the US. And that's including our expensive fuel, maintenance, insurance, some depreciation and the excessive €1100/$1500 in road tax I pay per year. Oh, and my car is larger than the Prius.

Exactly! It's more fun to drive as well. And does the Prius have a red leather interior? No it doesn't! Has it been built by Pininfarina in Italy? I certainly don't think so!
